Many CABBI inns put a welcome mat out for pets. So if you're looking for a great place to visit -- and one that Fido will also enjoy, here are some great options.

Enjoy one of the few pet-friendly B&Bs in the Napa Valley at the Brannan Cottage Inn in Calistoga. Two mini-suites are tailor-made for the comfort of pet- owners. Dogs will love the free bones, quick access to a local trail and personal greeting from Pinot Grigio (above).

Escape with your pet to the beautiful Capay Valley and enjoy a relaxing getaway at an 1898 farm-style house located on a 142-acre working ranch that includes an onsite zoo. Capay Valley Bed and Breakfast has two pet-friendly cottages (the Dog House and the Cat's Meow) complete with food bowls and enclosed porches.

The Fleming Jones Homestead Bed & Breakfast in Placerville is an 1883 saltbox farmhouse with separate bunkhouse on 11 acres. Pet owners love the bunkhouse, which is a perfect retreat for both people and dogs alike. This B&B is in a great setting for exploring the Gold Country.

Or, head to the ocean and stay at the Carmel Country Inn where pets are always welcome. In addition to a pet- friendly room, you'll be provided with helpful information such as nearby pet services, pet-friendly restaurants and even local pet sitters.

To find a list of other pet-friendly inns, click to expand the "Facilities" link and check the "Pets Allowed" box from the Advanced Search page.

    Recipe: Peachy Wheat Pancakes
    recipe_applepie

Set in beautiful Carnelian Bay with a lake view on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, the Shooting Star Bed & Breakfast is a contemporary lodge-style inn offering bountiful gourmet breakfasts.

With sweet peaches in season, the innkeepers suggest serving these hearty pancakes with warm maple syrup, bacon, fresh seasonal fruit and plenty of orange juice.
    Makes 8 servings.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup unbleached white flour
    • 1/2 cup wheat flour
    • 3 tbls sugar
    • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 2 tsp cinnamon
    • 2 tbls unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 1/2 cups milk
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 2 eggs, separated
    • 1/2 cup finely diced peaches, with juice

    • Preheat griddle; griddle is ready when a drop of water dances on the surface. In a very large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients. In a medium bowl, combine milk, egg yolks, vanilla extract and melted butter. Gently mix into dry ingredients. Add peaches and their juice to the batter. In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites until they are fluffy, then gently fold into batter.

Spoon batter by 1/4-cupsful onto the heated griddle. When bubbles begin to appear on the surface of the pancake, flip it over and cook until golden brown. Top with sliced bananas and whipped cream.

    California's Great County Fairs
    FAIR

The very first California State Fair took place in 1854 with the goal to promote agriculture and to provide a place where agriculturalists could share ideas and techniques. While this spirit remains a critical part of each regional fair, the breadth of activities has widened to include much more. With carnivals, livestock, music, crafts, contests and entertainment, there's many things to see and do for all ages.

CABBI has many inns within close proximity to all the action. Better yet, we give you the added promise that you can relax in style after a fun-filled day.

Break out your best apple pie recipe and head to the Mendocino County Fair and Apple Show, September 12-14 in Boonville. There's many CABBI-certified inns in the Mendocino area to choose from, and many are currently offering special offers.

Let the good times "grow" at the Santa Cruz County Fair in Watsonville being held September 9-14 in Watsonville. Or, further south, the Monterey Fair kicks off August 12. See our Santa Cruz and Monterey region properties and choose your ideal overnight accommodations. [Pictured Below: the Flora Vista Inn]

Take a trip to the state capitol in Sacramento to celebrate the California County Fair, running August 15 to September 1. Featuring live thoroughbred horseracing and big-name musical acts for all ages. It's a great vacation for the whole family. There's many CABBI inns in the North Gold Country/Sacramento region to choose from, including the Harkey House Inn, above.

Get ready for an old-fashioned event at the Lake County Fair in Lakeport where livestock and home arts contests will take center stage. See the Clear Lake region for accommodations such as the Gingerbread Cottages B&B in Nice, the Lakeport English Inn in Lakeport or the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake.

Napa's Town and Country Fair, "Fiesta de Napa," is just around the corner. Enjoy great music headliners and demolition derby action from August 6-10. The Napa region is full of great B&B options. And while you're there, be sure to experience some great wine tasting, too!

Act quickly and there's still time to experience the Mid- State Fair in Paso Robles from July 23 to August 3. While you're there, explore the beautiful scenery, wine country and quaint towns along Highway 1 - and then enjoy a restful escape at a CABBI inn in the San Luis Obispo region.
