Cream Cheese Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies
    old monterey

The Old Monterey Inn in Monterey is a luxurious award-winning bed & breakfast known for being a perfect romantic rendezvous destination.

Perfectly situated near the coastline and the famous Pebble Beach, the inn is walkable to downtown Monterey, Fisherman's Wharf and many seaside attractions. And after a day of fun on the coast, a fresh-baked cookie is the perfect ending. Here is the inn's recipe for a sweet treat anytime.

    Ingredients:

    • 3 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 cup grated orange zest
    • Juice from one orange
    • 3 TSP orange liqueur
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 3 tsp baking soda
    • 2 cups chocolate chips
    • 1 TBS dried orange peel, chopped

    • In a large bowl, cream together cream cheese, butter and sugar. Beat in vanilla and eggs; mix thoroughly. Add orange zest, orange juice and orange liqueur and mix until fully incorporated. In a small bowl, combine flour, salt and baking soda. Add flour mixture to cream mixture 2 cups at a time and mix well.

Stir in chocolate chips and orange peel. Cover and refrigerate dough until it hardens a bit, about 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drop dough by the heaping tablespoons, 2-inches apart, onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes, or until cookies are golden brown around the edges. Cool on cookie sheet 3-4 minutes then transfer to a wire rack until cold. (Store in zip-lock bags or cookie jar, if they last that long!)

Note: Dough freezes well and recipe can be easily doubled for larger batch.
