Cream Cheese Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes 36 Cookies

3 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
½ cup butter
1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 cup grated orange zest
Juice from one orange
3 tablespoons orange liqueur
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups chocolate chips
1 tablespoon dried orange peel, chopped

In a large bowl, cream together cream cheese, butter and sugar. Beat in vanilla and eggs; mix thoroughly. Add orange zest, orange juice and orange liqueur and mix until fully incorporated. In a small bowl, combine flour, salt and baking soda. Add flour mixture to cream mixture 2 cups at a time and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and orange peel. Cover and refrigerate dough until it hardens a bit, about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F. Drop dough by heaping tablespoons 2-inches apart onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes, or until cookies are golden brown around the edges. Cool on cookie sheet 3-4 minutes then transfer to a wire rack until cool. Store in zip-lock bags or cookie jar, if they last that long! Note: Dough freezes well and recipe can be easily doubled for larger batch.
